Artist statement
Pressure, rhythm, and the space left open.
Imani Cole is an Atlanta-based painter whose large abstractions begin with architectural fragments and the shifting geometry of Southern light.
Cole builds each surface through oil, dry pigment, and scraped linen. Burnt color and dense black forms hold the structure while sudden blue marks keep it unsettled.
“I want the painting to feel resolved from across the room and still restless when you get close.”
